Ultrastrnctura Study of Synovial Cyst

Abstract
Four cases of synovial cysts of the knee joint were studied with light and electron microscope to investigate ultrastructural changes of synovial cells in cyst formation. The characteristic changes are as follows.
In type A 7synovioblasts of `synovial cyst, vacuoles, pinocytotic vesicles, and other cell organelles are less than normal synovium. The cellularity of type A cell is markedly decreased. In type B synovioblasts, the cell organelles are well preserved and cellularity is not altered.
From¡Æ the above results, it is conceived that, ¢¥in synovial cyst, there is an uncertain factor which supresses the absorptive function of type A synovioblasts, and that, resulted from resulted from" relative increase of type B cell function, the cyst may grow.
